Sound of the underground: Revitalising a publication through a relaunch

Mind the gap and jump on board the express train that is platform - the monthly employee magazine relaunched by beetroot in 2009 for engineering consortium Tube Lines.

The client, which is responsible for maintenance and upgrade of all infrastructure on the London Underground's Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines, wanted the magazine to contain more regular features and more humour, while continuing to treat serious issues in a straight-talking and jargon-free way that readers can understand - and more photos to support the new content.

We've responded by writing, editing and designing a 16-page magazine full of stunning photography, eye-catching design and news and features that keep Tube Lines employees informed about what's happening across the business.

The magazine contains lots of interviews with front-line workers, including a regular column in which employees go power-crazy and imagine life if they were Mayor of London for the day!

All these elements, topped off with tabloid-style headlines, have combined to create a magazine that Tube Lines employees are now eager to read.
