In a class of their own

beetroot has helped Eurostar to win a coveted industry award for its HS1 Change Management Communications Programme.

Eurostar's HS1 programme won the Gold Award, as well as two of the classes, at the 2008 Communicators in Business (CiB) Communication Strategy Awards. The awards were announced on 14 November - the first anniversary of HS1, Eurostar's new high-speed rail link from St Pancras International.

The entry was submitted in partnership with beetroot, which is one of Eurostar's communications support agencies and the producer of Voyage, the high-speed train operator's quarterly internal magazine.

Eurostar and beetroot were winners in the Merger/Change Communications and Internal Events classes. The HS1 Change Management Communications Programme also received an award of excellence in the single-subject category.

The programme ran for 18 months and helped smooth the launch of HS1 and the move from Waterloo to St Pancras International for employees. The programme received glowing praise from the CiB judges, who described it as "taking employee engagement with change to a whole new level".

The judges added: "The level of investment in this engagement activity smacks of a company that was absolutely determined to get it right first time, and absolutely clear that the route cause of success are the people doing the job."
