beetroot has strengthened its editorial team by welcoming five new members of staff.

The new arrivals, who are all experienced journalists, bring a wealth of new skills honed on daily newspapers, B2B magazines, online titles and in corporate communications.

Senior editor Tony Matthews, a former news editor for the BBC's in-house newspaper Ariel, has begun work on publications for Tube Lines and GM&T, while Luke Davis will draw on his experience as a magazine editor to take charge of Freightliner's quarterly title Newsliner.

Jonathan Schofield, who spent six years as a reporter and news desk editor, has assumed the lead role on Southern Railway's staff magazine, and experienced publications editor Stephen Holroyd has begun work on the Royal Bank of Scotland's World magazine and microsite.

Managing Director Bob Wailling is confident that they will help push the company to new heights. He said: "We've found a group of individuals full of enthusiasm and new ideas. Together, they bring a wealth of experience to help our clients communicate effectively with their stakeholders."

beetroot has been given the job of delivering a world-class publication for a world-class tube after winning the contract to write and design on the move magazine for London Underground (LU).

With only a year to the Olympics and with LU in the middle of a major upgrade programme, this is an exciting time to be producing the monthly magazine for all LU staff - from drivers and those working at stations, to maintenance workers and support services. beetroot will also write and design the quarterly pension version of on the move.

Bob Wailling, beetroot's managing director, expressed his delight: "We won following a very competitive pitch and, after launching the title in January 1996, we're very pleased to be working on it once again and have already got stuck in."

beetroot bagged two Class wins at this year's Institute of Internal Communications Award - both for digital work - while there was also eight Awards of Excellence.

Best microsite went to RBS World, beetroot administers this and has also been commissioned to redevelop it; while Gazprom Marketing & Trading employee e-zine, Spark, won best digital media design.

The Awards of Excellence were received for BP (Reward and Recognition), TNT (Best Design of a Newsmagazine), Tube Lines (Best Newsmagazine) and Virgin Trains (Best Newsmagazine, Best Design of a Newsmagazine, Best Redesigned Publication and Best Feature) - as well as RBS and Gazprom.

"Winning all these awards illustrates the breadth of our service offering and once again our excellent work across a number of channels has been recognised by our peers,"  said beetroot MD Bob Wailling.

"We are particularly delighted to have received two Class wins for our digital work - this demonstrates the strides we have made and our capabilities in this area."

You must have excellent writing and client management skills, and have experience of working online as well as offline. The project is for a leading client and only performers with a proven track record and a knowledge of internal communications should apply.

beetroot has been appointed to design and produce the 2011-2012 cabin crew handbooks for Thomson Airways.

The suite of six handbooks, due for delivery in April, will appear in a leather effect folder, along with other important collateral.

"The redesign of the handbooks in our new innovative look is designed to help embed the new cultural change within the airline, and engender a sense of pride in being part of Thomson Airways," said Shannon Price, Crew Communications Manager. "We believe beetroot's designs will do that and more."
